Shaun came to Pluss for help with getting into work. He had tried various methods to find work but struggled and this had left him feeling helpless.
Shaun was then referred to Marise at Pluss, and she had a long chat with him about his skills and what we could do to help him find work. Pluss delivers Work Choice, the Department for Work and Pensions specialist disability employment programme. Work Choice receives funding from the European Social Fund for customers referred to the programme prior to 25th April 2017.
One of the first things Shaun wanted was to get help with his basic skills – mainly reading and writing. Through various one-to-one training sessions with Pluss, Shaun was able to brush up on his basic skills such as English and Maths.
Shaun came in one morning with the exciting news about a work placement next door at our factory!
Initially, Shaun was very anxious and worried and said he did not feel so well or he couldn’t work certain times. Still, Pluss encouraged and supported him to go through with it!
How did it work out? Let’s just say he went from worrying and not being so keen to using phrases like “I struck gold” and “I love it here”!
After six months of working at the factory on the traineeship, Shaun had clicked so well that he was offered a full time job!
Shaun works hard and enjoys every minute. He is so thankful and happy, has made many friends and couldn’t wait to get back into work after the recent Christmas break!
Shaun says “This job has turned my life around. If you told me three years ago that I would be working in a full time job I wouldn’t believe you. Pluss have been very helpful; putting me first, helping me with my issues and I wish it had happened earlier in my life.”
Good Job Shaun!
