David works for Sainsburys at Marsh Mills in Plymouth. David has worked at Sainsburys for 9 years and recently won Employee of the Month for his outstanding customer service. David has a learning disability.
David’s words
“I have
worked here 9 years. I do the shelf filling.
I enjoy my job, I do, I like it all the time.
I feel happy
to have won the award, looking after and helping the customer. I feel good.
I stop, say hello, take the customer, show them where to go, ask them if there is anything else I can do, then say goodbye.
When customers say they are pleased it makes me happy.”

“David
is a really reliable employee.
We tailor our work for David, which is fine. David comes in reports to me every shift and then just gets on with his work. I tell him what needs doing and he just gets on with a smile on his face. It’s really good and at the end of the day he’s done his work to a good standard.
Every few months we have a support worker in from Pluss who reviews how Dave is getting on with his work, what his targets are, assesses him and how he has done with those targets.
Also, we try to encourage David with his numeracy and literacy. I feel it is very important that we get David moving forward even more and this is something that Pluss support David with.”
