Over 10 million people in the UK have a disability.
Disability and Employment
- Nearly one in five people of working age (7 million, or 19%) in Great Britain have a disability.
- There are 1.3 million disabled people in the UK who are available for and want to work.
- Only 48% of disabled people of working age are in work compared with 78% of non disabled people.
- 23% of disabled people have no qualifications compared to 9% of non disabled people.

Specific disabilities and employment
- Only 6.8% of people with a Learning Disability are in any form of paid employment (National Indicator 146. 2009)
- Only 3.4% of people with complex Mental Health issues are in any form of paid employment (National Indicator 150. 2009)
- Only 15% of people with Autism / Aspergers are in any form of paid employment (National Autistic Society)
