Employment Training Units
(Plymouth and Torbay)
Pluss' employment training units offer employment skills and job search support for people with a learning disability.
You can be referred through your Local Authority Learning Disability team. Other agencies can also refer (although there is a daily charge).
What does the training unit offer?
You will have a personal key worker who will help you develop your employment action plan.
We will spend time getting to know you really well. We will find out what you are good at (in and out of work) and what you want to do. We can include your friends, family or anyone else if you choose.
You will also work with our placement team to help you find work. This may include work trials to try out different types of work.
You will be able to develop skills in Pluss' work skills area such as recycling, craft and manufacturing work.
You can also get training and qualifications in areas such as health & safety, food hygiene, skills for working life, money budgeting, customer service, road safety and travel training.
What happens when I start?
You
would normally complete a four week taster including a unit induction,
basic skills, work skills and learning assessments so you can put
together your plan to help you find work.
After this, we will
meet again to discuss the way forward - you may decide to look for work
over 16 hours with our Work Choice Team.
