The 14th July was National Employment day and we had a fabulous event at the Park Plaza in Leeds to celebrate with our partners.
We were joined by Stuart Andrew MP, the British Heart Foundation and Tempus Novo who all gave inspiring speeches about their experience of employing people from a variety of backgrounds.
As always the highlights of the morning were our award presentations. Our Achiever of the Year 2017 was presented to Matt Hickling. Matt is 23 and has cerebral palsy. He currently works for Heart Research UK having started as an Administration and IT Assistant on a Pluss traineeship in March 2016. Although this
was initially on a temporary basis they soon realised how invaluable he had become to the team and in September 2016 Matt was offered a permanent contract. Matt has an incredible attitude. He never allows anything other than his ability to define who he is and he brushes away any challenges. He is also a wheelchair racer representing Great Britain. This is his first permanent paid job.
Our Employer of the Year 2017 was the British Heart Foundation online sales hub in Leeds. The British Heart Foundation have offered 14 Traineeships to Pluss customers in two years. They have gone above and beyond when it comes to being flexible in their approach and have created a really welcoming work environment where everyone is valued and comfortable to be themselves.
