Josh Franklin, 20 from Coxley, is a Staff Member and works on the tills at McDonalds.

“My job is very enjoyable. Whatever I am given, I try to get the job done well.
“I have dyslexia. It made life difficult at school as I couldn’t do the work the teachers gave me. It was difficult. I am also very shy. If I feel uncomfortable, I don’t talk and become meek.
“I used to be in the circus doing juggling, uni-cycling and skating. I was often the one that had to jump off tall structures, or got thrown around as I am quite small. I never broke a bone. I just wasn’t enjoying it as much as I used to. I was unemployed for six months then I discovered Pluss.
“Pluss helped me to find a job. They helped me to gain interview skills and I attended job club. Then I applied for the job here. I was very shy.
“I was offered the job, although we decided to wait until the store was updated with new systems so that I wouldn’t need to relearn it all.
“Now I have finally got a job, I go out and see friends. I used to go home, to my room and not talk to anyone. I get on really well with the people here and they make it fun.
“Working has given me a confidence boost and I’ve learnt how to speak up for myself. I feel better as a person.”
Nikki Murden, Shift Manager, Street McDonalds, (part of the Lambtrad Franchise)
“Josh uses the till and is very competent. He is very good at doing his job and has really developed his confidence. He is perfect with customers and works well as part of the team.
“Pluss give me fabulous staff, and are informative and supportive. We will contact each other if I’m recruiting or if they have someone suitable. They will sometimes support people at interview and we will talk things through before or during the interview process. It is also good to know they are there for support if we need them. They call in regularly to do reviews but all the staff have progressed really quickly. I can’t praise them enough and would recommend them to anyone.
“We treat everyone equally and as individuals here at McDonalds. We encourage them to try different roles so they can choose what they want to do. It is really great watching our employees’ confidence grow.”
