Workprep
Work Preparation (Workprep) is a Jobcentreplus funded programme provided by Pluss to enable people with Disabilities and/or Long term Health issues look at returning to work.
This is done by helping an individual decide what type of work that they would like to do, how to achieve it and to experience the type of job role they have chosen in a safe way without risking their benefits.
There are two types of Workprep. There is a Personal Development Module (PDM) and a Work Placement Module (WPM). You can either do a PDM, WPM or maybe both. That is for you and the Disability Employment Advisor (DEA) to decide together at the Jobcentre what is right for you.
Personal Development Module
This is designed to help you decide what skills you have, what job you would like to do, how to get the job and how to keep the job. We support you in looking at what you can do, not what you can’t do. We will help you by improving your job searching skills, application forms, providing an up to date CV, identifying training needs and looking at your interview skills.
Next we will work together to look at the best types of work for you, what needs you might have at work and how to meet those needs. We will look at building your confidence and self-esteem so that you can begin to search for work in a positive and effective manner.
This programme can be for a maximum of 16 hours and will be tailor made to fit you.
Work Placement Module
The Work Placement Module is designed to enable you to experience a work placement. This will help you decide if you are ready to work and if the type of work you have experienced is right for you. It will help identify what support you may need in the workplace and build your confidence.
The experience can be used to build your stamina in the workplace, to work out how many hours you think you can work, what training you might need, to try a new type of job, build on existing skills, develop new ones, get back into the work routine, increase confidence and improve your CV. All this will be discussed and reviewed as the placement develops.
Pluss has contacts with over 700 employers in Devon and Somerset. This means we are able to get experiences in most types of work. The programme can be for a maximum of 13 weeks and is individually designed to meet your needs.
“One young Lady I worked with had not worked in over 10 years and had no idea what type of work she wanted or could do. She was referred onto a PDM where we looked at her skills, strengths and weaknesses. We then looked at job types and the best matches were catering roles or retail.
But N had never done these types of work before. N was then referred for a WPM specifically designed to enable her to try both types of jobs. Firstly she tried catering but quickly found that this was not her cup of tea. We moved onto retail and this was much more successful. N was able to build up her stamina and skills in this type of work. As a result, when the placement finished, N secured a job in a major supermarket. She had a great updated CV, a recent reference and could prove that her disability would not effect her role. That was 2 years ago and she is still going strong”
