Asher came to Pluss in August 2018. Asher now has a full-time job as a Workshop Tutor Trainer.
“My disability was anxiety, depression and PDSD. It was crippling within my mind, to the point my confidence was very low and I was unable to leave the house, because I wasn't who I was before. My confidence had completely gone. I used to be awesome but then it was gone. I was brilliant at my job - I was the highest selling technician in the Southwest for a local car dealer. They had an award just for me to thank me for what I had achieved that year. I used to be in charge of my own team.
“Due to a change in management and increased workload, I was unable to manage my health. I started to drink too much and then realised I was starting to become out of control. I was signed off sick for a long time.
“I found it really hard to find work because my confidence had hit rock bottom. I didn't realise it was depression. Six months of being out of the motor trade, I had lost touch with what I once knew to be able to do the job.
“Pluss have given me my confidence back - to get out of the door, get out the house. My Change Coach is absolutely fantastic, she made such a difference in my life. I was treated with utmost respect and felt very comfortable. I always found my Change Coach came back to me whenever I had a problem.
“During my time with Pluss I have achieved a City and Guilds Employability course, which was really helpful. I have built my confidence so I was able to attend a job fair at City College. From this, I met the head of automotive engineering training and from this, I was offered a full-time position as a Workshop Tutor Trainer. This will then lead on to my dream job as a lecturer in Automotive City and Guilds qualifications for new trainees.
“I have always been used to being in the workshop atmosphere, but now I am using my knowledge to let the trainees be hands-on and achieve their own dreams.
"This is a new start, a new chapter in my life; the dream I had always wished for but never thought would come through. Sometimes if you really want it, as long as you work hard at it, you can make it happen.
"This is bringing my confidence back, my mood has changed, my outlook has changed. I don't look for an excuse to stay in the house, I look for a reason to get out.
“It was like an out-of-body experience, I didn't take it in, I didn't sleep that evening, I didn't believe it. I had to go see the Manager again to make sure it was true, to get confirmation. My family are over the moon and have immediately seen the change in me - they are happy to have me back. I can't wait to start work.
"A big thank you to Pluss and my Change Coach.”
This is a fabulous outcome for Asher who has turned his life around!
