Karina was referred to the Work and Health Programme from Portsmouth Jobcentre in August 2018. She is now considering self-employment.
In the beginning, Karina's confidence was very low and she had quite a few health conditions which were affecting her ability to find a job. This also meant that, early on in the programme, she missed several appointments. Her Change Coach at the time put her onto a Confidence in Photography course which she enjoyed. This also helped to build her confidence and improve her social interaction.
In January 2019, Karina's first Change Coach left and she was given a new one with whom she connected really well. Karina started to go in regularly for her appointments and kept in touch with her Change Coach if she couldn't make an appointment for any reason.
Karina discussed her skills and job goals with her Change Coach and she enrolled on to an IT Skills course which she excelled at. Together, we also looked at Karina's CV, updated it and uploaded it to the job boards. Karina then started to receive calls for interviews.
Karina now also has her health conditions under control with her new medication and no longer needs to use her walking stick as she is feeling so much better and more positive.
She has recently enrolled on a training course to do her Level 2 certificate in Food Hygiene, as she is thinking of going self-employed as a cake-maker. Her Change Coach has seen photos of the cakes she’s made and is very impressed!
