Over the moon to start work - Daniel's story

Go back to previous page

Daniel was referred to the Work and Health Programme in 2018 by his local Jobcentre Plus.
Daniel had been in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance for a little while and was hoping that the programme would help him to find suitable work.
Daniel has mild learning difficulties and is a very confident individual who was really enthusiastic about starting work.
We worked with Daniel to find out what he felt he would be good at. He had had previous experience in retail and also as a kitchen assistant. He had been volunteering with a charity for a couple of years and really enjoyed the interaction with people. We spent a lot of time with Daniel applying for different roles that would be suited to his personality.
Unfortunately the applications were not successful to begin with. This never disheartened Daniel though and he continued on his journey, attending all meetings arranged with him. He would come to job search, drop-in on a regular basis, and would spend hours looking for and applying for jobs.
Daniel got an interview with a phone company which had to be done via video. He was very confident and brave doing this. He was really out of his comfort zone yet he completed it. He was not successful with this interview but it gave him the confidence to continue.
After applying for a couple of different roles, he put himself forward for some kitchen assistant roles. Daniel got two interviews in the same week. He attended both of these and felt that they went really well.
He is awaiting the outcome of one of them but he has been offered the role of kitchen assistant in a nursing home.
Daniel is over the moon with this and so excited to start.
I have spoken with the manager of the home who said that Daniel interviewed so well and answered all the questions just as they wanted them answered. We have done a 'entited to' calcualation so he can see he will
be better off in work.
Huge congratulations, Daniel!
The work and Health Programme is co-financed by the European Social Fund.
