Pluss’ Positive People programme wins national learning award

Go back to previous page

Pluss’ Positive People programme - an innovative programme which supports some of the most socially-excluded people across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset – has won a prestigious national learning award.

Positive People supports people across Cornwall, Devon and Somerset who are out of work and who could benefit from learning. The service works with people who face significant barriers to learning and work, including people with a physical or mental health condition, physical or learning disability, people with addictions, veterans, and homeless people. Basically anyone who is out of work and needs a helping hand.

Pluss were selected by Learning and Work Institute President, Nick Stuart CB, as the winners of the Festival of Learning 2020 President’s Award. Organised by Learning and Work Institute, and supported by the Department for Education, Festival of Learning is an annual campaign which aims both to celebrate the power of learning to transform lives, and to encourage more adults to take part.

Pluss works with fourteen partners to provide learning opportunities that are unique and tailored to each person.

We have two local community radio shows in Cornwall, helping people learn about media while showcasing to the community what learning opportunities are out there
for them.

Our Feel Good and Fly project works with young adult care leavers, helping them learn valuable life skills. Our social prescribing approach helps people learn how to stay healthy and well, reconnect with society and get active. We also help people to live sustainably, inclusively and give something back to the community.

The personalised and holistic approach to supporting people to learn and to achieve their potential has been hugely successful and we are delighted that the programme has been selected as this year’s President’s Award winner.

“Festival of Learning awards celebrate the commitment and achievements of outstanding adult learners, tutors, projects and employers. These stories show us how transformative lifelong learning can be, not just for individuals but for families, communities and society as a whole. As we look to build back better after the pandemic, we need to redouble our efforts to provide access to lifelong learning opportunities for all."

Positive People is funded by the European Social Fund and theNational Lottery Community Fund.
