This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and we are celebrating the amazing work of our award-winning specialist mental health team in South Devon.
This small but dedicated team provides support to help individuals who face complex and enduring mental health conditions move towards and into employment. Their customers face multiple, complex and enduring mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, OCD, psychosis, schizophrenia, bi-polar, PTSD, substance misuse and homelessness. They are often socially isolated, may have been sectioned or suicidal; people who are at the very lowest point of their lives.
Our forward-thinking mental health team have an innate belief in the skills and abilities of every single individual. They have been operating for ten years and were one of the first teams to have an employment service embedded into the local NHS Trust. Quite simply, their work changes lives.
Here are some of our highlights from 2017 and 2018:
1. Our 'Improving Access to Psychological Therapies' service
This service is embedded within Devon NHS Trusts ‘Depression and Anxiety Service’. Our work includes helping individuals (often skilled professionals) to retain employment.
2. Our 'Opportunities' service
This service helps individuals move towards and into work. We help individuals identify aspirations, skills and offer practical support.
3. Our 'Peer Support Network' service
Our peer support network trains people with mental health conditions to provide peer support and share their own experiences with other individuals with similar issues. Ideally they will then find paid work using these skills.
